DIY MENU BOARD

Hello, SITS readers! It is Lindsay, back to share with you a DIY project that will hopefully help me get organized with meal planning this summer.

I don’t know about you, but a lot of times, at the end of a busy day, the last thing I want to do is think about what to have for dinner! I know there is a better way to organize our meals and grocery shopping and it all has to start with an actual meal plan for the week.

So, what do clearance teak wood coasters, plywood and frame pieces have in common?

They all come together to make a menu board. This DIY menu board is going to help plan our weekly meals and make my grocery shopping a lot easier this summer. (Fingers crossed).

This cute menu board is an easy DIY project that will help you get organized for meal planning and add a touch of fun to your home decor. A double win! It could also be used for organizing your weekly schedule or family appointments.

DIY MENU BOARD

During the week, planning meals and getting dinner organized and on the table can be a struggle with our busy schedule. By the end of the day, I am tired and we are usually getting ready to head out to one activity or another. For some time now, I have really wanted to get more organized with meals and my grocery shopping.
I thought a menu board would be a great tool to help me stay organized.
To make the board, I used teak wood coasters I found on clearance at TJ Maxx, plywood, and frame pieces I picked up at Restore & Restyle.
I measured the frame and cut the plywood to fit.

Then, I painted the plywood with chalkboard paint and the frame a fun, teal color.

Chalkboard paint is an easy way to turn an inexpensive piece of plywood into the perfect size and shape of chalkboard you need for your DIY project.

The coasters were perfect to add the days of the week to the board. I adhered them with Liquid Nails.

To get them spaced apart equally, I used two yard sticks and moved them around accordingly.

Use rulers to space out the coasters or pieces of wood on your chalkboard.

I wrote the letters for the days on the coasters with a black paint marker.

Now, I can visually see what we have planned for dinner throughout the week. I can plan my grocery list according to what is on the there and only buy things we need. I like to get the kids involved with the meal planning too, so they pick days to add their favorite meals to the board.

This cute menu board is an easy DIY project that will help you get organized and add a touch of fun to your home decor. A double win!

I am so excited to finally be “on board” with easier meal planning and hassle-free grocery shopping! This board would also be perfect for organizing weekly schedules, appointments and activities.

Upcycled Drawers to Side Tables

We rescued some large mid century drawers and turned them into bright side tables. 2 extra large drawers, 8 little legs, and some scrap wood. The legs were attached with blind nuts and a wood shelf was added. A couple coats of paint later and bland drawers become bright accents. I chose to leave the original handles on to keep the mid century feel, two sets of legs were used, although they didn't match exactly, we trimmed one pair and the slight miss match adds to their charm and uniqueness. *Due to many questions I am adding more info here after original publishing. We attached the shelf with wood glue and brads (thinner headless nails) and the legs are attached with blind nuts- available in most hardware stores. *** added after original post This set of little drawers has really made the rounds. Since being posted they have been seen all over the web and Pinterest. They even made it into Mary Janes Farm magazine! I was contacted from another publication to feature the...

HOW TO MAKE A NO SEW OTTOMAN, PART 2

HOW TO MAKE A NO SEW OTTOMAN, PART 2 As promised here is the second part of how to make a no sew ottoman.  If you did not see Part 1- How to make the base you can find it here – How To Make a No-Sew Ottoman Part 1. Once the base is complete it is time for the fun part- adding the style and color. I took the design of my ottoman from this inspiration photo.  I love the spacing of the pleats and the nail head trim.  If you have a sewing machine – you could make the covered cording on the top. For the no-sew version – there is no cord and we will be stapling and using fabric adhesive. Since I always try to find the thrifty way to complete my Decorating projects and didn’t want to spend $$$ on fabric, I went shopping in my friend Karen’s attic. Every one needs a resource like Karen – Thanks Karen xo.  She has a professional workroom in her home where she makes all sorts of home decorator treatments for hundreds of clients. She has been in business for years a...
